SVG Kennels GUardianship Program

Our Guardianship Program is a unique opportunity for select families in HRM to raise one of our future breeding prospects as their own family dog while *partnering with SVG Kennels.

Due to the nature of our guardianship program and the coordination required for veterinary appointments and breeding-related responsibilities, guardian families must reside within the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) or nearby areas of Nova Scotia.

At this time, we are only accepting guardianship applications from families located within this region.

A guardianship home provides a permanent, loving home for one of our breeding prospects while partnering with SVG Kennels as part of our breeding program.

The dog lives with you as your family companion, while SVG Kennels retains legal ownership and breeding rights during the guardianship term.

Once guardianship obligations are fulfilled, ownership transfers fully to the guardian family.

At SVG Kennels, our dogs are family first and foremost. Every dog in our program lives in our home, not in a kennel facility, because we believe they deserve to be raised and loved as companions, like any other family dog. As we continue to grow, we have given a great deal of thought to how to do so in a way that stays aligned with our core values. 

Rather than keeping an increasing number of breeding prospects in our own home long-term, or transitioning dogs later in life once their role in the program is complete, we are choosing to grow through carefully selected guardianship homes. 

This allows all of our dogs to live the kind of life we believe every dog deserves;  as cherished members of a family, in a real home, with consistency, love, and individual attention. At the same time, these dogs may also contribute to the American Bully breed in a positive and intentional way through our program. 

For us, guardianship is not simply a method of expansion; it is a values-based decision that allows us to grow responsibly while continuing to put the dogs’ quality of life first.

Our guardianship program is designed for families who value responsible breeding, transparency, and a long-term commitment to the wellbeing of the dog.

Guardian homes play an important role in our program by providing a stable, loving home for one of our future breeding prospects while partnering with SVG Kennels as part of our breeding program.

Because this is a structured partnership with specific responsibilities, we encourage all interested families to carefully review our Guardianship FAQ Document, which explains the program in detail, including breeding expectations, financial responsibilities, and the guardianship agreement.

Only families who feel comfortable with the commitments outlined in that document should proceed with submitting an application.

Submit a Puppy Application

Families interested in becoming a guardian home should complete our puppy application and indicate their interest in the guardianship program.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a Zoom/Facetime interview before any placement is considered.

Our goal is not simply to place dogs, but to build long-term partnerships with families who share our commitment to the wellbeing of every dog in our program.
