At SVG Kennels, we are more than just breeders – we are a family-run business, led by husband and wife, Mike and Katie, with a deep passion for creating lifelong connections between families and their perfect companions. Our journey into dog breeding stems from a profound place in our hearts, honoring the memory and legacy of Mike's late mother, Sylvia Greenough.
Sylvia was an animal lover through and through, with a special affection for German Shepherds. For years, she dreamt of breeding these majestic dogs and becoming part of the community she admired so much. Life, however, had different plans. Just as Sylvia reached a point where she could begin pursuing her dream, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which eventually took her life after a courageous battle lasting through 6 years. Though Sylvia's journey was cut short, her love for animals and her dream of breeding lives on in us.
In the German Shepherd world, breeders often use “von” in a dog’s name, meaning “from” or “of” in German, signifying a legacy of quality and care. To honor Sylvia and keep her dream alive, we named our kennel **SVG Kennels**, standing for **Sylvia Von Greenough**. This name reflects not only our commitment to breeding exceptional dogs but also our deep connection to family, love, and legacy.
